If you’re looking for a scenic hike outside of Boulder, escape the crowds and head to Lost Lake Trailhead in Nederland, CO. To get there, head west on Canyon St. until you get into the town of Nederland, then take highway 72 south to County Rd 130 and make a right. You will drive through the town of Eldora and the road will turn into a dirt road for 4 miles. You will see cars parked along the side of the road, where you can park and walk .5 miles to Hessie Trailhead or continue on the 4 Wheel Drive path which takes you directly to the trailhead.
Once at the trailhead the hike begins and stays easy to moderate the entire time. You will encounter streams and waterfalls along the way (pictured above), as well as incredible views of the mountains. It’s about 1.5 miles to Lost Lake, where there are also campsites if you’re interested.
At the lake you can fish, camp, or just walk around and take in the amazing views. There are also many small trails around the lake to explore or go find a quiet spot to have a snack. While in the area, you can also explore the quaint town of Nederland which has some cute stores and ice cream shops for an afternoon treat.
