“Only the wise and the lucky find their way here”. That’s the first thing the park ranger said to us as we arrived at Gross Reservoir. And that statement could not have been more true. If you want to take a drive outside of Boulder, take in some incredible views, or partake in some water activities, Gross Reservoir is the place to go.
To get there, head West on Baseline Road (which turns into Flagstaff Road) and follow the winding, steep road for about 8 miles. Then turn left onto Gross Dam Road and follow the dirt road for about 3 more miles until you reach the parking area. Once you get there, you can walk right up to the water to paddle-board , fish, or kayak, or you can hike up some dirt trails that offer amazing views of the high mountain lake.
Note: The dirt road there is steep and bumpy so I recommend a car with four-wheel drive.
